What can you buy in Blowing Rock, NC for less than $500,000?

I have had several people ask me this exact question about different towns in the area over the last few weeks, and I thought, if there are this many people asking me this questions, there has to be many more out there that want to know. Here is a link to 16 great homes in Blowing Rock, NC:

Blowing Rock is a mountain resort town that provides visitors a chance to change their climate, change their mood, and change their altitude. Tucked just along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and quick weekend get-a-way for those is Charlotte or Raleigh, Blowing Rock is a quaint little town with boutique shops, numerous art galleries, and don’t forget the numerous restaurants. You can sit back at the park and enjoy the great atmosphere or you can put on your hiking shoes and head over to Moses Cone Park or Price Park (both located along the Blue Ridge Parkway), and take to the trails, cast a few lines into the lakes, bicycle across the countryside, or head out on horseback.

Come visit, enjoy our great weather!

Grandfather Mountain Documentary

Local Documentary on Grandfather Mountain that was shot, written, and edited by Jim Morton, Hugh Morton's son, in May of 2008 will be shown on UNC-TV on October 29 at 9:30. It will cover a large part of the species that call Grandfather Mountain home. It will be shown in chronological order, showing the changing of the seasons from Hugh’s perspective.

Don’t miss this chance to see a great work of art preformed by Hugh Morton.

Finally, the Goshen Creek Bridge, on the Blue Ridge Parkway is open again.

After 17 months of construction, the bridge reopened in the last few days. Local residents and weekend drivers have already graced the new bridge with their traffic.

Currently the only closing recorded by the National Park Service is the stretch between Milepost 269.8 - 280.9 – which is between Highway 16 to the North and Highway 421 to the South. Below is a link to the NPS website.

Recent Hike in Cone Manor

Today was a great day to hike in the High Country. Not to miss an opportunity, the family took a trip to the Moses Cone Park. With over than 3,600 acres, 25 miles of carriage trails for hiking and horseback riding, and two gorgeous lakes can be found within the Moses Cone Park. The Park is located along the Blue Ridge Parkway between mileposts 292 and 295. Open year round, with activities available for all ages.

It was a semi-cloudy day, so pictures were not optimum, but here are a few anyway...

A great view off the front porch of the Moses Cone Manor, and yes, I was relaxing in the rocking chair as I took the picture.

As we headed out towards the Moses Cone Cemetery, the Manor was asking me for a quick snapshot.

Great view of Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Top, Seven Devils, and Hawksnest.

Update - Green Park Inn Auction

The Green Park Inn is still up for grabs; with a bid at the auction topping $1,320,000 the bid was not accepted. The real estate company is still negotiating with three potential buyers. What does this mean for the landmark Inn? Opinions on the future of the Green Park Inn are being passed freely and liberally throughout the area. Several real estate agents have discussed the future of the property simply through the value of the land, while others are considering a “bailout plan” for the building. Maybe our government will come forward and support small business that have been struggling to survive, we can all just write very large tax checks for the next 50+ years.

Sorry, got away from the point. The Green Park Inn is awaiting its new owner, and Blowing Rock is still discussing the value of this landmark as it is the “first” thing many visitors from the South see as they enter Blowing Rock.
